As an MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) specialist, languages are a major passion for me and I can provide language teaching at all levels, individually, in small groups, and to whole classes. My main languages are French and Spanish, but I can teach a range of other languages at a basic level.
Language provision in schools is often difficult, because most staff don’t feel confident in their own language skills. I can either teach the classes myself, or train your staff so that they have the confidence to deliver language lessons themselves.
I have developed well-structured and motivational lesson programmes for teaching in schools. I always celebrate any home languages the children have and use these to facilitate language teaching where possible. I use a range of resources from flashcards to rock songs, and I can of course use an Interactive Whiteboard effectively. I was graded outstanding by my last head teacher. I offer both long and short term courses to suit these needs of the school.
Long-term courses: These are aimed at Years 3-6, but they can be adapted to begin lower down the school if required. Each year the children build on their knowledge from previous years. Children progress from words and phrases, such as greetings and introductions, to being able to create their own sentences and hold short conversations, and even to conjugate some verbs, allowing more natural conversations. I motivate children by making the language as relevant to their lives as possible and by including elements of the culture in lessons so that the children learn about the people and countries where the language is spoken.
Short term courses: these language taster courses are aimed mainly at KS1 as they don’t offer the progression required by the national curriculum. Each language course lasts for half a term and focuses on simple words and phrases such as greetings, introductions and numbers. Schools can choose from a range of languages including Italian, German, British Sign Language, Latin and Mandarin Chinese.
INSET days: I can provide French and Spanish language teaching sessions, covering vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, for class teachers to give them the skills and knowledge to teach languages to their own classes. If required these training sessions can be followed up with team-teaching lessons with individual class teachers to help them build up their confidence.

I have experience of teaching at university level, and understand that students will have very different reasons for learning the language. I am available to work as a visiting lecturer teaching students on both undergraduate courses and PGCEs, as well as those on subject knowledge enhancement courses. Contact me to see how I can help.
Whether you or your employees need business specific language for dealing with clients overseas, or just some basic skills, such as ordering food and drink, for getting by when travelling abroad, I can help. I can teach French or Spanish, in the comfort of your own offices, to groups of up to 6 employees. To discuss how I can help you and your business, contact me.
